        Common Names: Carambola, Starfruit.
        
        Origin: The carambola is believed to have originated in Sri Lanka and the Moluccas, but it has been cultivated in southeast Asia and Malaysia for many centuries. 
        
        Description: The fruit has an attractive star-shape (hence the common name) when sliced cross-wise. This extremely refreshing and juicy fruit has transfluscent attractive flesh with a distinct flavour. Its deep ridges produce delightful star-shaped cross-sections, making it a popular choice for fresh fruit presentations. It has a smooth and waxy skin. Ripe starfruit range from pale to dark yellow in colour. The fruits are crispy and very juicy and may range in taste from tart to sweet, with a delightful fragrance. While starfruit is mainly eaten as fresh fruit, they may be used in desserts, in savoury dishes or processed as beverages, jam, pickles or preserves. Starfruit are low in calories and a good source of vitamin C and potassium.
